KENYA GETS THE FIRST BITCOIN ATM MACHINE IN EAST AND CENTRAL AFRICA.

Kenyans have shown alot of enthusiasm and optimism for digital currencies especially Bitcoin even after the Central Bank of Kenya issued warnings to the public several times from investing in any digital assets. You might think it will deter the young innovators, thinkers and lovers of cryptocurrency.


To the contrary young and ambitious Kenyans who want to reap from this hot market are getting ideas and implementing them.


Kenrail towers, Westlands.

A Bitcoin ATM machine has popped up in Westlands, Nairobi at Kenrail Towers, third floor. The worlds first bitcoin ATM machine was opened in Vancouver, Canada which was reported in 2013. Just last year it was reported that Bitcoin ATMs had surpassed the 1000 mark. Kenya might be one of very few countries in Africa to have this machine, but its not surprising after Citi analyst reported that Kenyans had accumulated holdings of bitcoin estimated at more than Sh163 .3 billion.

From the actual image provided of the Bitcoin ATM machine, it is provided by a Czech (GENERAL BYTES s.r.o) a company specializing in Android and Bitcoin. They provide two Bitcoin machines: BATMTwo and BATMThree. Both based on Android operational system. BATMTwo is the second generation of one way bitcoin ATM, it is also the one way bitcoin ATM supplied by the company, it has fingerprint scanner and ID document scan, it will have a stand by operator to help. BATMTwo is relevantly small with the size of approximately 40x30 cm and weighs only 20kg. Cash box supports up to 500 banknotes of more than 120 different currencies. It retails at $2999.
